Penn Station Access Bronx & Westchester Community Council
The Penn Station Access Bronx & Westchester Community Council was created to educate the public and key stakeholders on the Penn Station Access project. The Community Council is co-chaired by Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. and Westchester County Executive George Latimer. Representatives from civic and community organizations joined local businesses from the East Bronx and Westchester at the Community Council’s first meeting on Thursday, September 26, 2019. Future meetings will be held throughout the design and construction of the project.
The Bronx Metro-North Station Area Study
The New York City Department of City Planning (NYCDCP) is concurrently conducting the Bronx Metro-North Station Area Study, which is a station area planning effort independent of MTA’s Penn Station Access Project. NYCDCP has held comprehensive information sessions and workshops with East Bronx stakeholders, at which the MTA and the Penn Station Access project staff participated, and is preparing recommendations to integrate the four new ADA-accessible Metro-North stations into the neighborhoods of Hunts Point, Parkchester/Van Nest, Morris Park, and Co-op City. NYCDCP continues to closely coordinate with MTA Construction & Development , the NYC Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), NYC Department of Transportation (NYCDOT), the Bronx Borough President’s office, and the East Bronx stakeholders.
